Ever since 1994's Quiz Show, Robert Redford's directorial attempts have been on a decline. The Horse Whisperer and The Legend Of Bagger Vance are patently unimpressive films, yet our fondness for the studly 71-year-old keeps us hoping for more.
Expectations have been high for his latest, Lions For Lambs, based around the War in Afghanistan, and starring Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise and Redford himself.
The film hits Indian theatres this Friday, a week after the US release. Here's a quick head's-up on what the critics are saying:
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times:
"When a third of a movie involves a verbal duel between Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, what are we supposed to do, not notice who's talking?... There is a long stretch toward the beginning of the film when we're interested, under the delusion that it's going somewhere. When we begin to suspect it's going in circles, our interest flags."
