Ms Rai had already tasted critical acclaim -- the cruel might call it beginner's luck -- with Mani Ratnam's Iruvar before this Rahul Rawail film, unfortunately one marking the director's gradual decline. Shammi Kapoor charmed, but Bobby grated and Ash overdid everything, raining plastic giggles in a portent of things to come.
