Of bell bottoms and chappals

The psychedelic 70s are back!

Watch Om Shanti Om and you will know what we're talking about. Farah Khan's film has friend Shah Rukh Khan and the rest of the cast in colourful clothes reminiscent of the bygone era.

Which brings us to the person behind the clothes. Meet Sanjeev Mulchandani, the costume designer who dressed up Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, Kirron Kher, Bindu and Yuvika Chaudhary. Over to Sanjeev.

Farah Khan handed out a lot of fact files (thoroughly researched by her, of course) to the design department for the look she wanted. We also watched lot of films of the 70s like Saccha Jhoota, Ponga Pandit, The Great Gambler, Burning Train, for inspiration.

There are three costume designers in all -- Karan Johar for Shah Rukh Khan, Manish Malhotra for Deepika Padukone and me for the rest of the characters.
