Tired of sobfests, thrillers soaked with emotion and weepy dramedies?
Over the last decade, Hollywood's standard summer blockbusters have given way to comic book adaptations. And while some of these make for truly great films, the need for absolute loyalty and enforced familiarity means, quite simply, that they don't write guys like John McClane anymore.
Thankfully, the old guard is waking up. Realising that the new age metrosexual nambie-pambies are well-groomed men who can cry, the vintage big boys are all set to lob hand grenades at a tissuebox-holding audience.
Sylvester Stallone led the charge, reviving the most inspiring sports franchise of all time with Rocky Balboa last year. The emotionally heavy film was a massive critical and commercial success -- especially given its shoestring budget. And while it wasn't exactly a tough guy film, it finally provided a fitting end to that magnificent character's story arc. Bravo, Sly.
