From China with love

The Kavyas, Navyas, Meeras and the rest of the heroines in Malayalam cinema have better watch out. Their latest competition is from China!

Zhang Shu Min, a Chinese girl working for a Dubai-based company has bagged the role opposite Sreenivasan in Lal Jose's forthcoming film, Arabikkadha.

Shu Min's entry into films is a story fit for a film. She started as a translator -- helping the crew find a Chinese girl for the role. As it turned out Shu Min spoke good English and could emote as well.

That's when director Lal Jose decided on Shu Min for the role.

Vijay caught up with the actress on the sets of the film and got her to spill on the film and her experiences in Kerala. Excerpts:

Do you feel strange wearing a sari and facing the cameras in a new place?

(Laughs) Not much. I had a fair knowledge about Kerala, its geography and the people, even while we were shooting for the film in Dubai.

I have watched a few of the films directed by Lal Jose including Meesa Madhavan and Classmates, which has helped me a lot.

I have been in Dubai for more than three years now and I was quite friendly with a number of Malayalis. Besides, I get a warm reception wherever I go.
