From godman to Sivaji's nemesis

Suman has been in the film industry for more than two decades and has acted in close to 300 films. His mainstay has been Telugu films although he has acted in Tamil and Kannada movies.

Of late this 'villain of the film Sivaji is well known for his mythological portrayals mainly the gods Venkateshwara and Rama.

He seems as comfortable donning these different hats as an actor and has proved his versatility in various genres ranging from action, comedy to mythology.

Radhika Rajamani brings out this facet of Suman. Excerpts:

Very few know that Suman is a polyglot who can speak English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada besides his mother tongue Tulu.

Hailing from an academically-inclined family with no background in films, Suman’s entry into films can be called a quirk of fate. Born and brought up in Chennai, Suman also had no inclination to enter films.

“My mother was the Principal of Ethiraj College, Chennai, while my father worked with the Indian Oil Corporation.”

In the late 70s, he underwent training in martial arts and was a black belt.
