'It's good that I did not get any award'

You have seen two different worlds of filmmaking -- then and now. What are the differences you have observed?

At that time things were stagnant -- people wanted to work at a more relaxed pace. Today it is chaos. The IQ level of kids has increased. It's the era of computers and people now have started believing in quick results. Now, if you give them a summary of something they will assume they have seen the whole film.

That said, there has been a definite improvement in the screenplays. These days, filmmakers tend to do things in a more subtle and natural way. During my era, most of the things were dramatised.

This film will be premiering at the IIFA awards where you will be presented with a lifetime achievement award. Your reaction?

For me every small thing related to films matter a lot. I love each and everything connected with films. I am happy that the IIFA people are honouring me with this award. I have never received an award, however hard I worked. And I'm grateful for that because the constant striving for perfection polished my work. It's good that I did not get any award.
