Were you more of a father or just a co-star with Sunny and Bobby on the sets?
When we were not shooting I am a father to them. It was good fun shooting with Sunny and Bobby. I distinctly remember, it was the month of January and we were busy shooting a schedule in Chandigarh, I used to go cycling every morning as per the shot requirement and we all used to have good fun there.
The fun was doubled all the more as I belong to Punjab. I was born in Sanewal. For the entire schedule I felt as if I was in my mother's lap. It was a great feeling.
Now here's a difficult question for you: which one is a better actor, Sunny or Bobby?
It is indeed a difficult question. How can a father choose between his sons? Both have their own plus and minus points.
Sunny is very shy and introverted, and gets away with things by his sweet smile. Bobby on the other hand is more commanding and demanding. They love me a lot.
You still have a very strong fan base here as well as abroad. Why did you take such a long time to act again?
I would rather call it destiny. Sometimes in life you slip. I always wanted to be an actor and when I entered films I knew how difficult it would get. Fortunately destiny brought me to Bombay through a talent contest organised by Filmfare in 1958. I then became a part of the film industry.
Destiny wanted me to be away from the camera for a while but now I am happy to be back. After Apne I will make sure that I keep giving something to the people. I think there is no one who does not love me (laughs).
We sincerely hope that we will get to see you more often in films.
Sure, sure. We are planning a film about three conmen. I think it would be interesting for people to see it. I love to do comedy-caper kind of films.
