Typical movie shindigs are passe.
The unusual is in, and so it was that the Gandhi My Father crew came together in a Mumbai bookstore to read from the book that inspired the film.
Harilal Gandhi: A Life by Chandulal Bhagubhai Dalal, is a detailed, heavily annotated account of the life of the Mahatma's son Harilal, and their estranged relationship.
As the author and the Mahatma's great grandson Tushar Gandhi talked insightfully about Harilal and Kasturba, actors Akshaye Khanna and Shefali Shah read out evocative letters from mother to son. Director Feroze Abbas Khan provided the voice of Gandhi.
Here, Akshaye reads out an accusatory letter, suggesting that Gandhi was using Kasturba as a buffer to get his own point across.
