Spinal Tap (with Ricky Gervais)
'Lets turn the amplifiers up to eleven'
Some rockers can be greater than legends -- even if they never existed.
Spinal Tap is a fictitious British rock band, made up of American actors Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer, their long-haired alter egos being vocalist/guitarist David St Hubbins, lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel and bassist Derek Smalls. They have a longstanding tradition of spontaneously combusting drummers.
Formed for Rob Reiner's fantastic 1984 mockumentary, Spinal Tap have since reformed a few times, for live performances and charity events. This time, the need for global warming awareness reportedly spread because 'Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing -- that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler.'
And so the funniest band in history is joining forces with Ricky (The Office) Gervais, one of the UK's sharpest wits -- and the only man truly entertaining at the Concert for Diana recently. These rockers could be the event highlight, especially if they play Stonehenge.
