Vishal Bhardwaj's Oscar-winning lensman
On the right, the bearded man with the Oscar -- admittedly bearing more than a passing resemblance to Rishi Kapoor -- is Guillermo Navarro, who's just won the Best Cinematographer trophy for the astounding Pan's Labyrinth.
The other man in the picture is Vishal Bhardwaj
, one of Bollywood's hottest and most celebrated filmmakers (even if we don't get into the composing bit).
Guillermo is Vishal's next cinematographer. Yup, the Oscar-winner is coming to India to shoot Vishal's next project, an 11-minute film on AIDS, starring Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame.
Vishal is thrilled about the Pan's Labyrinth connection. The director loves the astonishing Mexican film, a dark and profound fantasy which almost works as a modern day Alice In Wonderland. The film, directed by Hellboy man Guillermo Del Toro, just won three Oscars.
Navarro's roster includes an eclectic set of films like Jackie Brown, Spawn, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Stuart Little, Hellboy and Night At The Museum.
It'll be truly fascinating to see how the cinematographer of a metaphoric fantasy masterpiece interprets the ideas of the man who made films like Makdee, Maqbool and Omkara.
