Vidya Balan had a dream run this year at the box office, and is hoping that next year too starts on a high note.
Her film Halla Bol is hitting theatres in January. Vidya spoke to Girish Rao about Halla Bol, success and her alleged link-up with Shahid Kapoor. Excerpts:
Vidya, this year you had a dream run at the box office, almost like winning a lottery.
Yes, and I thank God for it. Whenever you sign a film, one always hopes that the film will run at the box office. But in my case it's been so smooth, and that too back-to-back (with Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyya) that it's really amazing. The feeling is unbelievable.
Ok, what's the total value of your lottery?
(Laughs) I don't know; it's just brought me infinite happiness and joy.
The buzz for Halla Bol is pretty strong. Tell us more.
This year I had a total of five films this year and that itself is like a award. Halla Bol is releasing in January. Raj [Kumar] Santoshi ji has directed Halla Bol and the type of films he makes is such that they always talk about some issue and this film is no exception.
Ajay plays an actor in the film and it's his journey from being a reel-life hero to a real-life hero. The whole story of the film is centered on Ajay, but there are also some other integral characters and I play one of those. I do agree that it's a small role but the very fact that I am a part of such a film makes you feel good. You are a part of a socially conscious cinema and that too with a director like Raj ji and actors like Ajay and Pankaj ji [Kapur] really makes me feel good.
