Bollywood's daredevils!

He makes the romantic Shah Rukh Khan look tough. Rather, he makes most of the Bollywood stars look like action heroes.

He is Allan Amin, the stuntman turned stunt director extraordinaire who has done it all in over 80 films till date.

He managed to make even a non-action hero like Saif Ali Khan do a daredevil stunt in his forthcoming movie Race.

Patcy N caught up with Amin over lunch for a juicy chat about his best daredevil stunts and life in general.

Amin, who comes from a mixed background (Muslim father and Christian mother) and is married to a Christian, says he was interested in racing (cycles and motorbikes) right from childhood.

He took up professional motorbike racing for Yamaha, which took him abroad. "I was into all kinds of adventurous work. When I saw a stuntman doing stunts I thought to myself that this was far more easier that what I was doing, and started doing stunts with my father," he says.

His stint as a stunt director took off with films like Dil, Beta, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Tezaab, Bandit Queen and Drohakaal. "I cannot recall when I started directing the stunts...I was 20 or may be 22 when I started working as a stuntman with my father," he adds.

Was the transition from stuntman to direction hard?

Amin says it was not hard at all. "First of all you don't require any qualification for this trade. You can learn only by being on the sets and doing it yourself. At first it was difficult directing a stunt, but now I am progressing day by day."

Here he lists his favourite stunts starting with Dhoom.

Dhoom

"It was the most dangerous stunt that I've directed so far. There is a scene where John Abraham runs off with his team after a robbery with Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra on their tail. When I narrated this to the movie director, he said it was impossible to stage it.

"But I was sure that it would work and we went ahead with it. Though we used doubles, we also put actors on cables and let them do the stunts.

"While John had a double, Abhishek and Uday had to do the stunts themselves."
