While some fans may say she has been acting in slightly darker films recently, it is purely of her own choosing. Her interviews not too long ago clearly suggested her craving for edgy roles. Preity was in the New York Tristate area for a concert last year and was told the organiser of the concert had gone on about 'that 1,000-watt smile that makes you fall in love with her.'
"I'm sick of it. I'm sick of being bubbly," she had declared then. "I'm sick of being talkative and I'm sick of being cute. That image has stuck with me. I mean, you evolve, you know?''
In Jaan-E-Mann, she is endearing but not 'really cute' as in the old days, she says. Her character has many layers.
She took questions from reporters sportingly at the New York event but looked harassed and grew a bit irritating when made to pose with families after families. "She is in New York just for a few hours and you can see she is clearly very tired," said one of the organisers. She was accompanied by the film's producer Sajid Nadiadwala (pictured).
