Meena Kumari as Nargis/Sahibaan in Pakeezah
Although delayed by more than a decade in its making, Kamal Amrohi's Pakeezah remains fresh in the minds of viewers owing to its timeless melodies (Chalte chalte, Inhi logo ne) and Meena Kumari's stunning presence.
The delay contributed towards several inconsistencies in the look of her character. The tragedy queen, however, impressed with her remarkable poise and expressive vulnerability in the twin avatar of mother and daughter bound to the fate of a courtesan wanting to soar in love.
The legendary actress' subsequent demise, two months after the release of Pakeezah, made her last effort all the more cherished.
