The best of Fanaa

The Scene: Rehaan and Zooni play Antakshari, and sing a couple of old Hindi film songs. Towards the end of the game, Rehaan reveals his true identity to her -- that he is the man she was dating when she was blind, and the father of her child.

At the end of the scene, Zooni's father (Rishi Kapoor) enters the room, and confronts Rehaan.

Director's Cut: This is almost five scenes rolled into one. And it is one of the most beautiful moments of Fanaa. One of the reasons I like it is that it has old songs. I love including old Hindi songs in my films. They are a tribute to filmmakers I love, which is why I ended it with Guru Dutt's song -- I worship him! I actually worked backwards from that song. This scene is also the turning point of the film.

We had to make the actors hit the right notes. When you have actors like Aamir and Kajol, you don't go for good shots, you go for brilliant ones. Such actors will never give you bad shots so, as a director, you need to see what level you can take the film to.
