Globe winners score at US box office

Leather-clad Kate Beckinsale's Underworld: Evolution, a werewolves versus vampires fantasy, led the North American box-office with a successful but not spectacular $27.6 million gross. But the big story over the weekend was how the Golden Globe winners shot up on the box-office charts.

Brokeback Mountain, which took home the Best Film - Drama Globe, and Walk The Line, which won Best Film - Musical or Comedy, saw their grosses go up significantly.

Adding 513 screens, the tender and heartfelt gay cowboy drama Brokeback Mountain, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, rode up from ninth to fifth place with $7.8 million. Though it is not on the top 10 chart anymore, Walk The Line, jumped by 77 per cent to grab $3.1 million.

Terrence Malick's gorgeous take on the Pocahontas tale, The New World, with strong performances by Colin Farrell and newcomer Q'Orianka Kilcher, finished in ninth place with $4.2 million.
