Rediff Reviewer's Top Five in 2006

Rediff Reviewers, a team composed from our readers, sent in their lists of 2006's best movies.

Yesterday, we presented Vidya Pradhan's top five.

Here is a list from Madhusudan Hegde, who is based out of Detroit and works for an Indian IT major.

Lage Raho Munnabhai

Who would have imagined that a movie in which a street hoodlum has a heart to heart with Gandhiji would be the year's most hilarious comedy? And that too even though it was a sequel?

Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi made us laugh. Touched our hearts. And preached to us without ever sounding preachy! Yeh Circuit ka current ekdum sahi laga bhai!

Munna falls in love with radio jockey Jhanvi (Vidya Balan). He does his usual bhaigiri and kidnaps the right set of educated people to win a radio quiz on Mahatma Gandhi to get close to her.

Boman Irani plays Lucky Singh, the land grabber who uses Munna's services but then schemes to get Munna out of the way when he has to get hold of the Jhanvi's land. The rest of the story revolves around Munna's conversion to the Gandhian way to convince Lucky Singh to give up his quest for the land. Munna becomes a nation-wide sensation, helping people use the same techniques to solve their problems. Jimmy Shergill, Diya Mirza provide great support in this movie which is a powerhouse of excellent performances.

The clincher: Of all magazines, The Economist saw it fit to mention the movie as a wildly funny movie!
