How Hrithik, Aamir celebrate Raksha Bandhan
August 9, 2006
On Raksha Bandhan Anita Raheja and Heena Agarwal were privileged to be invited into a few star homes to glimpse the emotional exchanges that take place on this auspicious occasion.

On Raksha Bandhan, I never let my sister Sunaina (she is two years older) off without her reciting the special lines, a ritual that has been followed in our family for generations:
Barah mahina chavi pakh,
Tujhe Raja Ramchandraji ki rakh.
(From this Raksha Bandhan to the next, 24 hours of the day and 12 months of the year I wish that Lord Ramchandra will always be with you and bless you.)
When we were children, Sunaina and I would fight like cats and dogs. You know, I love my bathroom to be neat, clean and dry and my sister and I would have big fight over this.
The day after her wedding, when I entered the bathroom and saw it all spic and span, I really missed the mess that she would make. I cried bitterly. It was a very emotional moment for me.
On this auspicious day, my sister, my uncles and aunts and their children assemble at our house. There is a lot of family bonding. The thali is decorated with flowers, pots of kumkum, rice grains, mithai and rakhis. The diya is lit, and rituals adhered to.
Earlier, I would gift Sunaina Rs 200 because that is what I could afford then. Now, I have increased it to Rs 1,000 because I think I can afford to give her this amount for the rest of my life.
My mom also gives Sunaina a gift. I make sure that with all the money Sunaina earns that day, she takes me out for lunch!
My only other rakhi sister is Pashmina (Rajesh Roshan's daughter) who unfailingly ties me a rakhi every year.

Hrithik honours the tradition of Raksha Bandhan totally. His favourite mithai for Raksha Bandhan is Kaju Barfi. He's a wonderful brother; just a phone call away at any point of time. My daughter Suranika also ties a rakhi to her mamu.
