What is Godavari all about?
I have been fascinated with the river Godavari. This fascination drove me to write a script where the river and nature are integral characters. Life around the river, the business, the rich culture -- this was a revelation to me and formed the story.
It is an urban point of view [Sekhar grew up in Hyderabad] of a rural landscape. It is all about how the river revealed itself to me and how I understood it. It is about a journey.
The film has strong characterisation. We spent a lot of time with people in East and West Godavari districts and interacted with them. There is a natural flavour in the film. We have some theatre actors from the districts acting in it.
I don't want to say anything more about it.
How did you decide on casting Sumanth and Komalini Mukherjee?
The hero is not a larger-than-life character; he lives life, faces trials and tribulations and then becomes a hero -- he grows as the film progresses. There is natural character development. So, I felt Sumanth would be a good choice.
I had the experience of working with Komalini in Anand. She is a good performer.
