After Independence, many of our leaders did not follow Gandhian philosophy. We didn’t model our economic model on Gandhian values. Why then do you want to inspire the younger generation of today with Gandhian thoughts?
You see, one can make a film on Gandhiji anytime. In 1947, we were a new democracy and a new nation, and there were different ideas. But let me add that I am not a politician to comment on these issues. This film is an attempt to show where we have reached as a society and as a nation today. The film is about the relationship between a daughter and a father. In our society today, daughters are looking after their parents more than sons. So Gandhiji is used as a metaphor in the film.
What is the equation between the father and daughter in this film?
There is no mother in the film. We get so many things from our parents, what do we give them in return? This is the question that everyone must ask themselves. We must give credit to good things in our life given by our parents. My character is the real heroine of the film. She is a working girl and has her own life. She lives her life based on values, and she is not scared to face challenges. Gandhiji had the courage to live life, and that is what my character is doing. She stands for courage.
