When we were in Kerala, we had a chef in our house to cook for us. My mother [Daksha Sheth] is a renowned dancer; my father often remains busy with music. So, nobody at home had the time to cook.
When I shifted to Mumbai, I had to cook for myself for the first time in my life. It was for a whole month, and during this time I experimented with a number of recipes. At times, I myself used to laugh or cry while trying something new.
One day, I saw that there was no other cooking ingredient other than bhindi and dal. So I put both the bhindi and the dal on the frying pan! It was a real disaster.
I still feel like laughing when I recollect this incident. I still stay alone, but I have a maid who cooks for me because I really love ghar ka khana [home food]. I love Gujarati and South Indian dishes and I would love to have that kind of food throughout the year.
