Holi, Baisakhi, New Year and Valentine's Day are just a few of the festivals hosted at Sankalp grounds, Goregaon, in north Bombay, as vibrant community celebrations.

But Navratri is its crowd-puller.

We are not talking of crowds of hundreds or a thousand.

Sankalp dandiya celebrations redefine the meaning of a crowd. As many as 20,000 garba buffs may congregate on any warm night with 40,000 sticks clacking.

Why? To dance to the songs of a portly, energetic woman, with a boy cut and a youthful face, who runs the show with verve.

Yup, you guessed it -- the very popular and lively Falguni Pathak. You probably haven't seen a singer full of as much dum as Falguni.

Before the show started at the Goregaon Sports Club grounds, of which Sankalp is a part of, Falguni offered a prayer backstage, while the other singers chatted.

Her night kicked off with a round of upbeat, chatpata Gujarati folk songs. Later, foot-tapping, hot filmi numbers like Mangal Mangal (from Mangal Pandey) and peppy Marathi songs took over.
