The evening began with Lawrence S Bacow, lawyer, economist, and twelfth president of Tufts University. He explained why India was important to Tufts, considering how Gandhi's concept of non-violence had shaped the world.
Next came an introduction of the panel by Tufts Provost and Senior Vice President Jamshed Bharucha. He spoke of Amisha's days at the university, and how she knew she was destined for the bright lights of Bollywood. Razdan, born to a German mother and Indian father, was referred to as "the talented actress you may recently have seen in Monsoon Wedding." Tharoor, a three-time graduate of The Fletcher School, was there on account of his having written Show Business, a novel set within the Indian film industry.
And so, the stage was set. The 'presentation' could begin.
