Five-time Member of Parliament and Youth Affairs Minister Sunil Dutt died on Wednesday morning in his sleep.

He was suffering from fever for three days. He went for a blood test on May 24, the report of which is pending.

Fondly called Duttsaab, he was known as an angel of peace among fans. The veteran actor enjoyed a lot of respect among the masses, thanks to his secular stand. Dutt always fought for the benefit of people. He even criticised his Congress party-led Maharashtra government's decision to ban dance bars.

As soon as news of Dutt's death flashed on television screens, people started swarming to his home at Pali Hill, Bandra, to pay their last respects.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress party President Sonia Gandhi, film personalities, Congressmen, navy officials and fans gathered at his home.
