Though her acting career did not take off, her item numbers in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai's Sharara sharara and Saathiya's Chori pe chori were immensely popular.

Her latest release, Zeher, is directed by debutant Mohit Suri, and costars Emraan Hashmi and Udita Goswami.

Shamita chats with Patcy N about her new film. Excerpts:

Zeher is about a husband and wife -- two people who fall in love and get married. It is only after marriage that they realise they are very different and not compatible. Eventually, they let their egos come in the way.

This poisons their relationship, and that's why the movie is called Zeher. They go their separate ways. The film also has a crime plot.
