My parents told me to complete my engineering and come to Mumbai.

When I came here in 2001, I met people like (advertising filmmaker) Prahlad Kakkar, and then got modelling assignments for Amul, Nescafe and Nirma. I started like any other newcomer.

I think acting has grown on me. If I have a day off, I don't know what to do.

I knew this profession provides uncertainty. But I stuck on. In retrospect, I think I made a sensible decision. I was a computer engineer with a secure profession. But here was a field where you do something different every day. And that is what I always wanted.

I knew I would make it one day.

My first film was Hansal Mehta's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, produced by Harry Baweja (and written by former rediff staffer Suparn Verma). That got me a newcomer's award at the Stardust awards.

I did two multi-starrers, Plan and Rakht. There was no hype created for Payal Rohatgi, because there were bigger actors in those films. I was not even a star daughter. These films didn't push my career ahead. But I learnt a lot.
