The worst films I have chosen are not really the worst films of the year.

There are dozens of films that are far cheaper, immensely more exploitative, unbelievably dumber and excruciatingly painful to watch than the ones on the list. But the following films made the worst impression because they promised something that they just could not deliver.

At least one of them, The Polar Express, is quite a hit at the box-office and many critics have loved it. And yet, it disturbed and irritated me considerably.

How can a comedy that featured Jack Black and Ben Stiller, and directed by Oscar winner Barry Levinson, turn into a mirthless and immensely boring turkey?

The film grossed just about $10 million and lost some $50 million. The story of two friends, whose bond is disrupted by an invention that makes one of them rich, has no inventive touch. It was such an embarrassment that its producer DreamWorks issued an apology!
