Being the daughter of the Leader of the Opposition Party and president of the Bharatiya Janta Party, L K Advani, must have its share of perks. In the least, it guarantees a full house to a documentary screening if ever one was to turn filmmaker, however loosely one might define that term.

It's not as if that robe doesn't fit Pratibha Advani then. Her tribute to patriotism in Bollywood is a commendable effort indeed. But then again, she is her father's daughter.

And so art and politics made for strange bedfellows under the guise of a felicitation ceremony for 'Padma Awardees' on Tuesday, February 15, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in suburban Mumbai, Dr Najma Heptulla, president, Indian Council of Cultural Relations and a recent convert to the BJP's way of thinking, playing host.

Though party workers socialised with Mumbai's glitterati over mocktails and starters, it was Bollywood's night out with Dev Anand, Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha leading the fray. There was also Anupam and Kiron Kher, Kader Khan, Prem Chopra, Vivek Vaswani, Mahesh and Robin Bhatt, Poonam Dhillon, Aftab Shivdasani, Rahul Dev, Anu Malik, Anu Kapoor, Smriti Irani and birthday boy Sonu Nigam.

Seated at the reception dinner Dev Anand, Kader Khan, Poonam Dhillon, Smita Thackeray, Pratibha Advani, L K Advani, Najma Heptulla amongst others. Also sharing a light moment are Dharmendra, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Dev Anand.
