And there are people in England who dislike her for a very good reason, she added smiling. "The last two films of mine opened at number one position in United Kingdom," she said chuckling even more. "These were British films and yet, they did not deal with Eurocentric themes. They were absolutely different from the usual British films. Some people just cannot appreciate it."

"Bend It Like Beckham too had got some terrible reviews," she says. "But that was some years ago and since the film is a big hit, many have forgotten the nasty reviews."

She hastens to add that many publications more popular than The Guardian praised her new film. "And that matters a lot… these publications reach several millions readers, unlike The Guardian," she added.

The Guardian had written that 'All of Jane Austen's subtlety is lost in this all-singing, all-dancing, Bollywood update.'
