All the Indian films that premiered at IFFI 2005 kicked up controversy. Parzania, however, did this without a bunch of stars trooping in late.

Based on a true story, the English film by US-based director Rahul Dholakia, looks at the 2002 Gujarat riots, and refuses to pull any punches.

The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Sarika, Corin Nemec, Parzan Dastur and Pearl Barsiwala. It is the story of a Parsi family caught helplessly in communal crossfire, and a young voice trying to make sense of all the insanity.

Parzania is a politically charged film, and needs to be applauded for its courageous directness.

For Dholakia, it is also a very personal movie, based on a close friend's trauma.
