This week an envelope from Mukta Arts Limited arrived in our office. For the uninitiated, it is a filmmaking company run by Bollywood veteran Subhash Ghai.

Finally, news that Ghai has started directing his much awaited musical with Salman Khan -- all of us thought.

Sadly, the envelope was just about Shaadi Se Pehle, which Ghai is producing and Satish Kaushik is directing.

The question is: Why is Ghai -- once an iconic Bollywood director -- not directing films?

His last two films Yaadein (2001) and Kisna (2005) flopped spectacularly. Probably, Ghai could not believe that audiences rejected his films outright.

What hurt more was that Madhur Bhandarkar's Page 3 which released the same day as Kisna, went on to become a big hit.

Apparently, the buzz in the industry is that The Showman has lost his touch, and is unable to adapt to changing times.

After he did Yaadein, Hrithik Roshan's career went bust and it recovered only in 2003 with the hit Koi Mil Gaya, directed by his father Rakesh Roshan.

The next actor whose career took a severe beating was Vivek Oberoi -- after Kisna flopped and he has hardly any films at hand.

Let's hope Ghai's musical doesn't do the same to Salman Khan!
