The big award of the night, the Golden Peacock, went to the Iranian film Iron Island.
Mohammad Rasoulof's film was awarded the top honour by Goa Chief Minister Pratap Singh Rane.
The film -- a modern day Noah's Ark exploring the lives of a commune of homeless people living in an abandoned oil tanker and their issues of rootlessness and displacement -- impressed the five-member international jury with its "originality, deep thoughtful narration, powerful cinematic expression and great creative strength".
The show concluded with a screening of the French film L'Enfant, the winner of the Palme D'Or at Cannes earlier this year.
Last year, Iranian film Shahr-e-Ziba won the Golden Peacock and garnered a Special Jury Award for lead actor Faramarz Gharibian, who is part of this year's jury.
Much-hyped Brazilian film Olga was touted as the film to back, and several extra screenings for the film were announced. Well, it might not have gotten a Peacock, but there's always MAMI 2006, right?
