Who was your cricket hero? Kapil Dev?

Kapil Dev was too old. He was my father's friend. My hero was Ajay Jadeja. I used to tell my father to call Jadeja home and he would say, `I don't know him so well'. When I was about 14 or 15, all the cricketers came home, including Sachin Tendulkar. I was looking at them with awe as if they were not real!

Today, cricketers earn more respect than actors and even the top actors look up to them.

When did you decide to choose acting as profession and television as the medium?

I always wanted to be in the limelight. After school, I got modelling offers. But my parents wanted me to finish graduation before chasing my dream. When the audition offer for SS music came, my father said, `No way you can do it'. I said, `I would do both - study and be a VJ'. He let me do both.

How did SS Music happen?

Somebody told me audition was happening for a music channel and asked me, `Why don't you give it a try.' I went for the first audition but was not selected. Second. Still no luck. It took me five auditions to get into the SS Music. But once I got in, there was no looking back. I have been with them for four-and-a-half years.
