As Shilpa chats with us, her reel life former hubby -- Sumeet Sachdev (Gautam, left) -- strolls in. "You are the sister to the whole unit? Give me a break!" he jokes.

"Hey! I am happily married to a handsome husband!" Shilpa retorts. The camaraderie is evident.

The elderly Kamalika Guha Thakurta (Gayatri chachi) and Apara Mehta (Sabita dadi) walk in next. "I still remember the day when this role was offered to me," says Kamalika. "I wanted to run away from the Balaji office! There was no way I would play this role, I thought. But then I told myself, no harm in giving it a try. It's amazing how five years have passed. I never expected it would be so good. The best part of the serial is that we are not competing with any other show. We are competing with ourselves!"

Mehta agrees. "You have no idea of the popularity of this show. I have to travel a lot as part of the Gujarati plays I do. A few weeks back, I had gone abroad and people recognised me there as an actress from a famous Indian serial! It was a very touching moment for me because the people who told me do not understand Hindi. Which means they recognised me despite not having understood the serial! This speaks volumes of the popularity," she says.

Ironically, in real life, both Mehta and Kamalika's favourite character in the serial is Tulsi!

Seen right is Ronit Roy, who plays Mihir Virani.
