September 23 saw the music release in Mumbai of Gurinder Chadha's much awaited, Bride And Prejudice or Balle Balle! Amritsar to LA, its Hindi title.
The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Namarata Shirodkar, Sonali Kulkarni, Meghna Kothari, Peeya Rai Choudhury and Hollywood actors Martin Henderson (The Ring), Naveen Andrews (The English Patient) and Danniel Gillis (Spider-Man 2).
Surprisingly, the music, scored by Anu Malik, was released only two weeks before the film's release on October 8 -- something unheard of in Bollywood.
Explains Gurinder, "We had planned to make the film in English but when the distributors saw the film, they told us it would be unfair to them. They asked us to make a Hindi version as it would have a broader appeal in India. So we sat down immediately with Javed Akhtarsaab and started writing the lyrics for songs in the film. That's why it (the music release) got delayed."
