Mahesh Dattani wrote his first play in 1985, and is hailed as a serious contemporary English playwright.

His directorial debut was Mango Soufflé, a homosexual love story, starring Rinke Khanna and Atul Kulkarni. The film won accolades at the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival, the Bangkok Film Festival and the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.

But it did not do well at the box office.

Dattani's cinematic credits also include writing the recent Dance Like A Man.

Rajiv Menon, a fine filmmaker in his own right, has worked as cinematographer to this film, his first such assignment since Mani Ratnam's Bombay. His fluid camerawork enhances the film's aesthetics.
