I was not interested in films when I won the Miss World title in 1997. That's why I didn't plunge into it right away.
I believe that if you don't want to do something, you should not do it. Money is a means to end; not the end. I wasn't interested in films so when I got Bollywood offers, I said no.
I was offered films immediately after winning the title. You are automatically elevated to a level. You get everything on a platter, and it's a matter of choice. I came close to doing Mahesh Bhatt's Jism, and was excited by it. But it didn't work out.
I wanted to test the waters with Tehzeeb; whether I wanted to enter Bollywood or not. That's why I didn't do a big film, because then, I would be stuck for three, four months. The decision to do Tehzeeb took five days. It was a big decision because I had to give up my rented London flat and move back to India.
I speak Hindi. Meri Hindi kafi achchi hai. But I have a very strong accent. I'm working on my diction, and it's much better than what it was.
I insist on getting my film script so I get to learn my dialogues. I haven't dubbed for Ab… Bas, but I am planning to dub for my other films.
