Madhuri Dixit

I knew Madhuri much before Tezaab happened. I loved her face, but not her body. I love her smile, so I would only take close-ups or mid-shots.

She is known for her smile, so I wanted something different. She was always happy with the Indo-West look with either ruffled or straight hair. I was always fascinated with her jaw line and her sharp eye contact with the camera.

Manish Malhotra designed this costume. There is no feminine touch in the picture except her fingers, holding the camera. It's a very manly look. It is a copy of a reference that I had, but this picture came even better. The neckline, the teeth showing, the matchstick in her mouth, her slight tilt of head... If somebody wants to become a photographer, this is the right attire and the right attitude.

She loved this photograph, as it was the first where she was not smiling.

I have done many photo shoots with Madhuri. She takes her own time to get ready till she is confident about the mood and outfit. Till then, she is very conscious.
