Bombay Dreams, which is built on a story idea by Shekhar Kapur and Andrew Lloyd Webber, has most of its 39 cast from the South Asian communities in America and Canada.

The three principal artists are Indian Americans: Manu Narayan (left) as Akaash, the young man from the slums who becomes a movie hero; Anisha Nagarajan (right), whose Bollywood destiny crosses that of Akaash; and Sriram Ganeshan, the hijra whose love for Akaash leads to tragic consequences.
