Meehan, who wrote the phenomenally popular current hits, The Producers and Hairspray, will join director Steven Pimlott, the producers and many others, including composer A R Rahman to see the reaction of the audiences on Monday, the first day of the previews. The 'bandages' will come off as the reaction of the spectators becomes apparent.
Whether the first day audiences at Broadway Theater, with 1,750-plus seats, love the show, remain indifferent or hate it, history will be made on March 29.
In its 110 years of existence, Broadway never has had a show set in India. There have been shows set in Russia (Fiddler On The Roof), Greece (Zorba The Greek), even Thailand (King And I, which was set in 19th century Siam).
There has never been a show, say Metamorphosis or Oklahoma!, that had more than one South Asian actor in it at a given time. Click here to read more!
