Kamal Haasan might have won National Awards for his serious performances but he can best be described as one of finest comic actors in Indian cinema. Perhaps only Mohanlal with his subtle performances can compete with him in the comedy department (Mohanlal's films Nadodikaattu, Pattana Pravesam, Kilukkam, Chitram are a few examples).
Haasan is more high-pitched and slapstick when it comes to comedy. But all his comedies are laugh riots -- be it in Avvai Shanmughi (remade in Hindi as Chachi 420), Panchatantiram (remade into Hindi as Masti), Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Indran Chandran, Kadala Kadala, Sati Leelavathy, Pammal K Sambandam or Thenali. The finest among these is the silent movie Pushpak, as he went through the entire film without dialogues.
Now comes the Tamil remake of the Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS (Sunil Dutt, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Gracy Singh) titled Vasool Raja MBBS.
