Bachchan said he hopes people will like the film. "Viruddh is about a social issue, about an ordinary middle-class family. It is about a man who is pushed against the wall. If you push a cat to the wall, she will attack. The same goes for humans.
"This film has nothing to do with [Mahesh Bhatt's] Saaransh. One should not see the asthiyan [urn containing ashes] in promos and feel that Viruddh is based on Saaransh.
"There are very few heroines left to act with me. So I have to hunt for heroines my age. I have done many films earlier with Sharmilaji and am happy to act opposite her in this film."
Bachchan explained that the film's idea belongs to Mahesh Manjrekar. "Mahesh said that this subject would be universally accepted. Today, Indian films are gaining importance across the world. So we decided to make it in English as well. Dubs are never good compared to English dialogues. Everything will be same in Hindi and English."
He added, "I am an actor and there is no personal identification with this film. If you give me a good role, I am ready to play it in films."
