Amitabh Bachchan launched his latest home production, Viruddh, on July 15.

Besides the Big B himself, the film will star Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay Dutt, and John Abraham. It will be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and is scheduled for a May 2005 release.

The film will also have an English version called Versus.

Close friend and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh sounded the mahurat clap for the first shot, which was directed by Karan Johar.

Viruddh is about a middle-class man, Vidyadhar Ramkrishna Patwardhan (Bachchan), who retires as a manager from Air-India. His wife (Sharmila Tagore) plays a retired school principal. Their son (John Abraham) studies in the US.

While they live a happy retired life, they always fear what were to happen if one of them dies.
