She made a scorching screen debut in Road with the item song Khullam khulla in 2002.

Then Koena Mitra disappeared for two years, as she didn't want to be labeled an item girl.

The Bengali bombshell will now make her acting debut in Sanjay Gupta's Musafir, releasing on December 10.

She spoke to News Editor (Entertainment) Syed Firdaus Ashraf about her film and career choices. Excerpts:

Musafir is an 'introduction film' for me as an actor. I was initially called to do an item number for the film. Sanjay Gupta liked my work and gave me a role in the film.

It is not as big a role as Sameera Reddy's, as she was already signed for the film. She is like one of the heroes of the film!

There are not too many surprises in my role. I am acting opposite Anil Kapoor, who is a big star, so I think this is a great deal for an introduction!

My character's name in the film is Lara and it is a dark movie. I cannot talk much about the film. I can only say it is an action-thriller.
