His negative role in Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na was appreciated.

"I did a negative role for many reasons," he says. "It was a strong role. The film had an actor like Shah Rukh Khan. His banner Red Chilies Entertainment was producing the film. It is prestigious to work in such a movie."

"I did not do the villain's role to rape a woman on screen. I did not do it for money. I did it for my motherland. I love my country."

"Even in Rakht, I am not the hero. As the producer, I could have chosen any role. My role is strong, but there are no songs picturised on me. I want to be remembered for my acting. People should say that I did a great role."

Then Shetty shocks us by saying, "After Rakht, I will do a rethink about production. So much depends on the distributors. They stab you in the back just before the film's release. Then, there is video piracy. That has to be streamlined before I produce any more films."

"Let Rakht release, then we will see. Vijay Mallya is a gem of a person and a great producer. We must see that he does not lose his money. We will produce more films after the fate of Rakht. I will always be an actor first."
