The awards were, as usual, seasoned with a pinch of controversy. There were those who felt Hrithik Roshan should have bagged the Best Actor award for his performance in father Rakesh Roshan's Koi… Mil Gaya.

The jury, however, awarded it to Tamil actor Vikram [top, right] who won it for his performance in Bala's Pithamagan. Malayalam actress Meera Jasmine [bottom, extreme left] bagged the Best Actress award for T V Chandran's Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam.

Sharmila Tagore [bottom, right] was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the Bengali film, Abar Aranye, directed by Goutam Ghose. Pankaj Kapur [top, left] was named Best Supporting Actor for Vishal Bharadwaj's Maqbool.

Manoj Bajpai [bottom, centre] won a Special Jury award for his performance in Pinjar.
