The 51st National Awards were announced on Saturday, on the eve of India's 57th Independence Day. rediff.com takes a look at some of the winners.

Sandeep Sawant's Marathi film, Shwaas, won the Best Feature Film award.

Rajkumar Hirani's Munnabhai MBBS was judged Best Popular Film, while Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi's Pinjar won the Nargis Dutt award for Best Film on National Integration.

Rakesh Roshan's Koi... Mil Gaya won three awards in all, including Best Film on Social Issues.

Rituparno Ghosh's Choker Bali was named Best Feature Film in Bengali. His brother, Indranil, was judged Best Art Director for the same film.

Rajat Kapoor's directorial debut Raghu Romeo was named Best Feature Film in Hindi, while Pamela Rooks' Dance Like A Man won the corresponding award in English.
