Ever since the Kaun Banega Crorepati show was launched on television, many offers came my way for game shows, dance shows, and serials on television. None of them was interesting.

Then I received an offer from Sahara Parivar to do a serial based on Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. I was thrilled. I felt this would be the first time in my life that I would play a role based on a classic.

I read Bimal Mitra's novel, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, and was impressed. I had also seen Guru Dutt's film in which Meena Kumari played 'Chhoti Bahu'. It is a very interesting film. I took it up because it was a classic. I would never have had a chance to act like that in films.
