March 25, 2009
Rice, wheat at Rs 3 per kg!
Commenting on the promises made by Congress in its manifesto, Mahesh Purohit, the Director Foundation for Public Economy and Policy Research, said, "We cannot make announcements like this for a country like India. Very large quantum of money will be needed. It would be important to see total economic scenario. I don't support it."
Congress in its manifesto, released ahead of the General Elections for the 15th Lok Sabha, promised to provide 25 kg of rice or wheat per month to families below poverty line at Rs 3 per kg. At present, the BPL families are entitled to 35 kg of rice or wheat in a month at Rs 5.65 per kg.
